Prevalence figures for procrastination vary widely between studies, and the reason is methodological rather than mysterious. Different scales (the Pure Procrastination Scale, the Irrational Procrastination Scale, Pathological Delay Criteria) set different thresholds, samples skew heavily toward students, and almost everything here is self-reported. The direction of these findings is consistent and well replicated. The precise percentages are not, and anyone presenting them to two decimal places is overselling.
